The Department of Home Affairs in Australia has significantly reduced the processing times of some visa types. This includes skilled workers in the education and health sectors as well as international students.
Faster processing times
Australia is enhancing its visa system by implementing measures to reduce process completion. This includes hiring more staff to assist with temporary and migration visa processing. As a result, processing time for the Student Visa and Temporary Skilled Shortage Visa will be completed within 2-3 weeks.
Additionally, the implementation of Ministerial Direction 100 aims to streamline visa processing priorities, thereby improving efficiency in handling caseloads.
Processing times per visa category as of 23 June 2023:
- Student visa- under 2 weeks
- Temporary Skilled Shortage visa- 2 to 3 weeks
- Employer-sponsored skilled program (healthcare and education) – within one day
- Working Holiday visa (outside of Australia) – within one day
- Permanent Skilled visa- clearing time is 7 months compared to 12 months last February 2023
How to avail the faster visa processing
The recently implemented measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency and speed of visa processes are beneficial to all migrants. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the visa application you submit is “decision-ready.” Here are some steps you can take to expedite your application:
- Check your documentation twice to its full extent before submitting your application.
- Make sure you have sufficient proof of documents that the department is asking for.
- Ask assistance from migration experts, as they could help you prepare necessary documents ahead of time. Also, they understand your goals and assess your eligibility to provide personalized guidance on your migration pathway.
